This watercolour of Christ Church is painted from the view from Christ Church Meadow (which, incidentally, is inhabited by English Longhorn cattle). Christ Church is home to Oxford’s Cathedral and world famous choir, and sits with the city on one side and the meadow and River Thames on the other.
In recent years Christ Church has also become famous for providing the location for many scenes in some of the Harry Potter films. For example the staircase was used to film the famous entrance scene where Professor McGonagall meets Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Christ Church is amongst the largest and wealthiest of colleges at the University of Oxford and the college’s alumni include 13 British prime ministers.
