Buy a quality framed print of Darrell Godliman’s photograph of the entrance to the oldest part of the Bodleian Library. The stone door frame is decorated with carvings of leaves and flowers and the great door is panelled and held together with black rivets. Above the door is a blue sign with the text “Biblioteheca Bodleiana Schola Vetvs Ivrisprvdentiae”. Duke Humfrey’s Library, founded in 1488 and still open to students today. The Bodleian is one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and recently acquired its 12 millionth book, a volume of revolutionary poetry by Percy Bysshe Shelley. The milestone makes it second only in Britain to the British Library.
