Corpus Christi College (meaning ‘the body of Christ’ in Latin) was founded in 1517 as a centre of Renaissance learning for the University of Oxford. It is situated in Merton Street and lies between the city centre and Christ Church Meadow. Notable graduates include James Oglethorpe, who founded the colony that became the US state of Georgia, art historian John Ruskin, philosopher Isaiah Berlin and author Vikram Seth.
