High Street, Oxford at Night (B&W only)
Buy a framed print of Bharat Patel’s long exposure photograph of a bus rushing past a parked bicycle on Oxford’s iconic High Street. Every conceivable place seems to have a bike chained to it in Oxford: railings, signposts, lamp posts, drain pipes, gates, other bikes, as well as actual bike stands of course, because for so many students the best – and only – form of transport is their bike. Oxford is one of Britain’s true “cycling cities”, with almost 20% of working people usually cycling to work; the second highest figure of any city in England and Wales. Cycling may be popular in Oxford, but alas stealing bikes is also common, with around two thousand reported as stolen each year.
