A rarely seen view of the Radcliffe Camera

A rarely seen view of the Radcliffe Camera

The Radcliffe Camera must be one of the most photographed pieces of architecture in Oxford. However, the view of the ‘Rad Cam’ from the Fellows’ Garden of Exeter College will be a view not so many have seen. It’s elegantly captured in the Martin Anderson photograph shown on our website here.

A Fellow in an Oxford College is a senior member of the college and part of the college’s governing body.  Colleges may also have other categories of fellow, such as honorary and research, who are not members of the governing body. A Fellows’ Garden is usually only for the use of a limited number of people and so the general public would not normally have this particular view of the Radcliffe Camera.

Did you know that amongst the famous people who were students at Exeter College are JRR Tolkein, author of Lord of the Rings and Roger Bannister, the first person to run a mile in under four minutes.
