The dreaming spires of Oxford

The dreaming spires of Oxford

The most iconic view of Oxford’s Dreaming Spires is probably from South Park in east Oxford, captured beautifully with a photo from Seth Lazar shown on our website. From South Park one can see the many spires and towers of Oxford University. This is a beautiful Oxford souvenir or Oxford gift.

Originally the land that South Park sits on was owned by local brewing family the Morrells. In 1939 the Oxford Preservation Trust bought the land from the Morrells and they in turn gave it to the city in 1951. A fabulous gift regularly enjoyed by so many.

The phrase Dreaming Spires was coined by the English poet Matthew Arnold (1822-88) who used it in a poem written to commemorate his friend.
